Comments from Past Hostel Guests
We've received Trip Advisor's Certificate of Excellence every year that we have been in business, and also have great reviews on Google+. We are also one of the best 5 places to stay in Honduras in the Lonely Planet's Central America on a Shoestring. Here are a few comments from past guests:
“Excellent hostel, 100℅ recommended!”
Myself and my fiance booked in for an initial three nights here and had a double room in the hut at the back of the hostel. Very nice room, comfortable bed and private bathroom. The pool, communal areas are excellent and always tidy/clean, and Mel the owner is super friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful and kind.
We loved it so much we stayed a further two nights in one of the new apartment rooms Mel and her team had recently opened. This was a very spacious room with huge bed, lots of natural light and large kitchen / bathroom area shared with one other room....Perfect!
The breakfasts and the evening meals we ate there were lovely too, and very reasonably priced.
All-in-all a wonderful stay, would definitely stay back with Mel if we visit Roatan in future...Which we fully hope to do as the island is amazing!!
'Great place to stay! Mel knows what she's doing. She creates a family atmosphere in an environment where people are always coming and going. I loved the movie night when she set up a screen in the backyard! This is the type of hostel that people stay for weeks and return the following year. The location is great - quiet and away from the touristy areas, easy to catch a cheap taxi into town West Bay or West End and there is a beach within walking distance.'
\Had a wonderful time there thanks to Mel and her staff. Your in the laid back centre of Roatan. Friendly people and quiet when u want it. Easy access to the rest of the island and all the amenities. All ages from all over the world. Dorms, single beds and apartments. Hammocks, a pool, nature and a lookout to the ocean. There might be some event at the hostel from get togethers to home made "Tapado" (tasty fish stew) made by the locals. Take a mini-bus to Coxen Hole to shop for groceries. Coke a cola is cheaper here? Check out the local markets. Eldons supermarket( like a safeway/metro). Take a scooter and explore the island, lots to see and do. Head the the direction to West End(Night life and restaurants)and West Bay(Beaches and Resorts). Nice beaches and close by taxi or mini-bus or walk straight down to the beach from the hostel just 10 minutes. Nice views.'
'What an incredible hostel!! I stayed here for around 2months and couldnt think of a better place to stay whilst on Roatan. Mel the owner is beyond helpful and friendly, her knowledge of the island is exceptional, their isn't much she doesn't know! They hostel is located in Sandy Bay (about a 5-6min cab journey from Westend) which is an awesome location, a much more authentic place to stay on the island with plenty of services and local restaurants all minutes walk away! there is an awesome dive shop a short walk away for those interested in diving. the hostel itself is great to meet people, its clean, comfy rooms and even a swimming pool for those lazy days. I cant recommend this hostel enough!!'
'Loved this place. Great value stay in what is a pretty expensive location. The room we had was private in the hostel part of the property and had a lovely bathroom and well stocked kitchen for us to use. Nice communal area and even nicer community of people.'
'My husband and I stayed in a small apartment here for a week and really enjoyed our stay. We are always happy when we have a kitchen, and we did here, it definitely helps with budget. The apartment was a great space and even though we had to pay extra for AC we were very glad to have it, the apartment was very hot during the day. We enjoyed the pool and all the guests were friendly. Mel and Cecilia were very friendly and helpful and they have movie nights, bbq's, and other social functions regularly, so it's great for meeting people! We would love to stay here again, it was a great price and in a good location'
'Planned to stay here for three nights but ended up staying for over 8 nights due to the excellent time I had at this hostel! The staff were exceptional and Cecelia made me feel welcome right away, giving me a tour of the lovely pool out back and the rooms! Stayed in several rooms throughout my stay, the dorm was really great with 6 beds, and was a good place to meet people due to the proximity to the social area and kitchen where delicious communal dinner lunches and breakfast were often cooked up by Jose (a brilliant man who lives next door and is always helping int he kitchen and planning brilliant days out on his days off!) I also stayed in the upstairs private and the house which were both great and perfect for a more chilled out vibe. The location in sandy bay made it a great place to explore the island with the staff and Cecelia helping to ensure we went on great snorkelling trips and to island secrets such as the floating swing rope boat.
Overall this is one of the best hostels I have visited in my months in central america, and can't recommend it highly enough.
Thanks again to Cecelia, Jose and everyone I met staying at this great hostel!'
'I have stayed at Roatan Backpackers for 3 trips now and love it! Both Mel and Cecilia are great and accommodating. I have been in the lofted rooms, apartment and casita and have had awesome experiences in all. Love how the hostel isn't down on the West End with all of the tourists (but easy and cheap to get to) and you can always get a good local experience with the people who live in Sandy Bay. You also get to meet great people who are volunteering with the clinic or are around for a different experience. Look forward to my next trip back there!'
'Realmente el mejor hostal en el que me he quedado. Sobre todo por la Atención. Me hicieron sentir como en casa. Really the best Hostel I ever been. They make you feel welcome and at home. The administration gives you tons of information about the island and best places, transport, etc. Really recommend it to anyone interested in visiting Roatan.'
