Island Cooking Classes
Sampling different foods and flavors is one of the great parts of traveling, and learning how typical local dishes are made is a fun way to experience local culture, as well as have a lasting memory to share with friends and family when your trip is done. Roatan cooking classes are offered upon request (3 days advance notice) at Roatan Backpackers Hostel with our islander cook, for hostel guests and non-hostel guests alike. Cooking classes must have a minimum of 4 participants signed up to run, but you are welcome to request one as a single traveler, and we'll try to fill the rest of the spots. The cost is $15-$30 +tax per person depending on the dish, and includes all ingredients. The class takes about an hour and a half, and is followed by sitting down to enjoy the dinner you created. Each class is a different local dish, such as tapado (a seafood stew in coconut milk broth), stewed shrimp with rice and beans, pastelitos, conch soup, ceviche, coconut bread and many other typical dishes. If you have a special request, please email us in advance to see if we can accommodate it.
