Rainy nights, sunny days

7/29/2011

We've had some pretty intense showers this week during the night, complete with thunder and lighting.  During the day, the sun comes out and it's hot and beautiful- perfect Roatan weather!
The hostel has had quite a few people coming through.  Pete continues to hold the record as the longest hostel guest in a dorm room, with his stay of a month, however fellow Brits Josh and Johanna came in a pretty close second- they left just short of 3 weeks here.  Miss you guys!
The upper floor is currently stalled for progress, as of course it has ended up far more costly than estimated.  No problem, I just want to get it done in time for rainy season (October), so that there's a living room to relax in if it's rainy.    Hopefully we can get some stairs installed in the next few weeks, and then get the sheetrock finished and on to more painting.

More construction and dining al fresco

Today, we started in on our next phase- adding in additional accommodations and a living area into the loft part of the hostel, with dormers going out to add space.  It's an exciting project- there'll be a side staircase going up outside, with an upper porch (plans for a hammock on it).  I'll keep you posted as the plans progress.
We had a few dinner guests tonight: Ellen, who's back from her trip to Guatemala, a new hostel guest, Alejo, and our buddy Nicole.  We had a great dinner out back by the pool, with our new patio table sets.  After dinner, a few other hostel guests stopped by, and we chatted over drinks until it was time for bed.  I love new company :)

We celebrated Canada poolside with a pizza party.  We picked up some new tables and chairs for the patio, so there was lots of place to sit, relax and enjoy the great company.  Happy Canada Day!
