The 15th of September is Honduran Independence Day. The day is a holiday for banks and most businesses (tourism-related businesses like dive shops are still open), and is celebrated with children marching in parades in various spots on the island with their schools, both on the 15th itself, as well as sometimes a few days prior for younger kids. The holiday is also celebrated on Roatan with the International Fishing Tournament and carnival in West End, which this year was held from the 11-14th.
