Our 6-bed dorm is on the small side. It's fine when there are just a few people, but when it's full and everyone has bags, it's a tight fit. It's pretty difficult to change the size of a room, so we decided instead to play 'musical rooms', and switch around a few things. Our old studio loft is being gutted to change it to the dorm, and the old dorm will be made into a private room with private bathroom.
Poor Cecilia and Osman have been pestered non-stop by me via email and Facebook, wanting to see how the project is going. The dorm beds will have a few built in shelves at the head of each one, as well as plug-ins for the individual fans, and adding an individual light, and then extra plug-ins for people to use their electronics. There'll be a little sitting area off to the side of the dorm room as well, for relaxing with a book. The walls are going to be lime green, and ceiling blue- hopefully it looks as pretty as I'm imagining it!
Once that's complete and the old dorm has been fixed up as a private, next on the agenda will be improving the porch that's right outside of the new dorm. Osman built a few Adirondack chairs a few months ago, and I'd like to get a porch swing built as well, tile the porch floor, and eventually screen it in. I can't wait! There's something strangely wonderful to be so excited about something that's my work :)
We'll be back down in just a few more weeks, and l'm looking forward to seeing the changes.
