I was recently contacted by an expat living on the island, Tom Masters, who offered to do a guest blog post about his experience moving to the island.  His blog post is below.  Thanks for this contribution, Tom!

With so much going on in life, living part time on the island of Roatan, there is a lot that I have done. Roatan provides their visitors with so much to enjoy that you’ll never have enough time to see and do everything. Though I travel a lot to see the world, Roatan provides me with the home feeling that I need. Honduras, through the relocation, does provide a lot of excitement that you can easily get when you have enough time within the area.

The Beauty of Roatan

Roatan is a beautiful place to spend your time. With friendly people and the chance to get more from life, it provides quiet living and the chance to enjoy all that comes from being a part of a smaller culture. Rich with life, the streets come to life when the people come out for festivities throughout the year. Additionally, you can enjoy the traditional food such as shrimp, sea crab and conch soup. Everything seafood can be found right around this island. Roatan also has some of the best locations for scuba diving, surfing and plenty of other water activities as well as beautiful botanical gardens and several affordable hotels and resorts. Staying in a hostel is a popular accommodation in Roatan and you can easily find an affordable place to sleep when you arrive.

Part Time Living in Honduras

If you’re looking at making a change, Honduras can provide a little bit more for the person looking to expand their wings. It is a vibrant, fascinating place for you to visit. With many markets that are open throughout the week, you can pick up a piece of the culture and delicious food that they specialize in within the area. Just a little recommendation but you should know Spanish or take the time to learn a little Spanish before taking off to Honduras as it will make communication much easier, especially when shopping or traveling and sightseeing. Additionally, you can enjoy the scenery and all that is offered when you take a walk through the parks. The beaches are welcoming to those that want to take a dip in the ocean, or you can just enjoy sitting on the sand and staring up at the bright skies and beautiful lush green forests ahead. If that is not enough, the museums and rich culture is always around the corner or nightlife shines bright once the sun sets. Listen to the music, make some friends and enjoy more out of the moon and stars.

The Process of Relocating

The process of relocating has a lot to do with the customs you must pass, as well as getting your items to the new place. You need to ensure that you’re working with a reputable company that can help you get your items, including your vehicle to the new country.

You will need a visa and passport, so both should be your first step to relocating to the new country. This will be used as a form of identification. Additionally, there will be necessary paperwork stating what items you’re bringing with you, as well as a title for the vehicle that you’re going to be relocating. The value of the vehicle must be paid tax on.

Using a shipping company to bring the vehicle, as well as your household items can cost anywhere from $2,400 to $3,500 according to  a1autotransport.com. This is a big consideration to make and you’ll want to have as much money as possible to settle down with.

Consider making the move today to find out what you need and how you can make this happen. Both areas provide beauty, plenty to do and a great group of people to know. With this relocation, you can learn so much about the world. This is a change you want to make since it provides you with a bit more out of life than what you’re currently getting. Slow down, relax and learn more about the cultures surrounding you when you relocate.
